1. "What is Judo ?"
Judo roughly translated means the gentle way and is essentially a "grappling" martial art. Judo began in Japan in the late 19th century under Master Jigaro Kano. Based on many different styles of Jui-Jitsu , or self-defence techniques, he created what is known today as Kodokan Judo. Judo includes throwing, hold downs, and for adults, also arm bars and strangulations. In addition to an excellent means of self-defence, Judo is an Olympic event and can also be practiced as a competitive sport at all levels
 
2. "What ages train at your club?"
We welcome Judoka of all ages,our students range in age from 5 to 55, we are a very popular club for primary and junior judo players due to the relaxed and family friendly atmosphere our instructors encourage at the club. 
 
3. " What qualifications do the instructors posess?"
 
As well as being very experienced judo practitioners, our club coaches are trained in child protection, first aid, and many have external teaching qualifications.Coaches are assessed on an anual basis as part of our quality control processes.
 
4. "What do I need to wear for my first lesson?"
 
When you train for the first few lessons, tracksuit bottoms and an old(preferably long sleeved) top will be fine, please bring clothing that has no buckles,zips or metal fastenings, Judo uniforms (judogi) are available at the club, if you decide that judo is for you, these  range in price from £15 upwards. Please speak to Sensei Pope for details.                                     
 
5."How much does it cost? "
 
We are a "not for profit" judo club, there is no joining fee, and your mat fees are paid directly to the leisure centre.Prices for the 90 minute sessions range from £1.80 to £2.50, dependant on age/centre membership.Please contact the leisure centre for details.

 6. "What if I get Injured?"
 
Judo is a contact sport and injury's can occasionally occur.Rest assured, as well as the club coaches, we have sports centre staff and resources on hand in the event of injury.
 We are a fully insured BJC club, however for judo players to be covered it is a mandatory requirement that all participants hold a valid judo licence, these are available from the club and cost from £5 (Junior temporary licence) and £8 Senior temporary licence.
